This refreshing salad takes the best parts of a Waldorf and lightens it up with a tangy yogurt-sour cream dressing instead of heavy mayo.

Crisp apples and juicy grapes provide sweet crunch, while celery adds savory snap and toasted walnuts bring nutty richness.

Lemon juice keeps everything bright and prevents the apples from browning.

Serve chilled on lettuce-lined plates for a light lunch or as a side dish at potlucks where it disappears fast.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use firm apples: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji hold their texture instead of turning mushy
  • Chill before serving: At least 30 minutes in the fridge lets flavors meld and keeps it refreshing
  • Toast the walnuts: Five minutes in a dry skillet deepens flavor; cool before adding
  • Prep ahead: Make this morning-of or even the night before; it holds beautifully

Variations

  • Add dried cranberries or raisins for chewy sweetness
  • Use pecans instead of walnuts for buttery Southern flair
  • Mix in diced chicken for a complete lunch salad
