Sweet banana slices over creamy ricotta on a crispy pizza crust, finished with thin slices of salty ham. Sound wild? This sweet-savory combo is one of those “don’t knock it until you try it” situations that wins over even the biggest skeptics.

The ricotta acts as the base here instead of tomato sauce, creating a smooth, mild layer that lets the caramelized bananas shine. Brushing butter over the banana slices before baking encourages browning and brings out their natural sweetness. The ham goes on near the end so it warms through without drying out or curling.

Only five ingredients stand between you and a pizza that actually surprises people. The key is getting your oven ripping hot before the dough goes in, then dropping the temperature once the ham joins the party. That two-stage bake gives you a golden, crispy crust without overcooking the toppings.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use ripe but firm bananas. Overripe ones will turn mushy during baking and slide off the slices.
  • Spread the ricotta thin. A thick layer won’t heat through and leaves the center soggy.
  • If you have a pizza stone, preheat it for at least 30 minutes for the crispiest bottom.
  • Prosciutto works as a swap for ham if you want a saltier, more intense bite.

Variations

  • Honey drizzle finish: Hit it with a light drizzle of honey right out of the oven for extra sweet-salty contrast.
  • Add walnuts: Scatter chopped walnuts on before baking for crunch and nuttiness.
  • Go sweet-only: Skip the ham entirely, add a dusting of cinnamon and powdered sugar for a dessert pizza.
