These no-bake bran bites are basically energy balls before energy balls were cool. Crushed bran flakes and toasted wheat germ get bound together with peanut butter, a splash of fresh orange juice, a drizzle of honey, and plump chopped raisins.
Roll them into balls, pop them in the fridge, and you’ve got a grab-and-go snack that kids (and let’s be honest, adults) will demolish.
The wild part? They actually taste better after sitting in the fridge for two or three days. The flavors meld and the texture firms up into something almost truffle-like.
Kitchen Tips
- Crush the bran flakes in a zip-lock bag with a rolling pin. You want small pieces, not powder, so the bites have some texture.
- If the mixture feels too dry to roll, add orange juice a teaspoon at a time until it holds together.
- Wet your palms slightly before rolling to keep the mixture from sticking to your hands.
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. They firm up beautifully and become even more flavorful as they age.
Variations
- Chocolate chip: Fold in a handful of mini chocolate chips for a treat that splits the difference between healthy and indulgent.
- Tropical twist: Swap raisins for chopped dried mango or pineapple and use coconut peanut butter.
- Nut-free for school: Replace peanut butter with sunflower seed butter and these become lunchbox-safe for nut-free classrooms.

These nutty-flavored treats are a favorite with all kids... big and little! Flavor and texture are enhanced by aging 2 or 3 days in a refrigerated, tightly-covered container.
