70 minDump cakes get their name for a reason: you dump, you bake, you eat. This one earns every bit of its reputation.
Yellow cake mix and butter get blended into a sandy crumble that serves as both the crust and the topping.
Press most of it into the pan, bake until golden, pour two whole cans of cherry pie filling over the hot crust, then scatter the reserved crumbs with chopped nuts on top.
Back in the oven it goes until everything is bubbling and browned.
Scoop it warm into bowls and top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Kitchen Tips
- Pouring the cherry filling over the hot crust helps it stick and prevents a soggy bottom layer.
- Use any nut you like: walnuts, pecans, or almonds all work here.
- The crumble topping browns fast, so check it after 25 minutes and tent with foil if it’s getting too dark.
Variations
- Use chocolate cake mix with cherry pie filling for a Black Forest-inspired version.
- Swap cherry for apple pie filling with a yellow cake mix for a classic fall twist.
- Try chocolate cake mix with apple pie filling for a rich, unexpected combo.
