This is the brunch recipe that makes you look like you’ve been cooking all morning when really, you did the work the night before.

Thick slices of French bread soak overnight in a rich egg custard, nestled on top of a bubbling caramel made from brown sugar, butter, and dark corn syrup with chopped pecans.

The magic happens when you flip the whole thing out of the pan. That caramel-pecan layer becomes a glossy, sticky crown on top.

Top it off with whipped cream and fresh strawberries for a breakfast that borders on dessert.

Pro Tips

  • Use a nonstick pan or grease it very well; the caramel will cement if it sticks
  • Cut the French bread into thick 2-inch slices so it holds up to the overnight soak without falling apart
  • Watch the oven closely in the last 10 minutes; the caramel can go from golden to burnt quickly
