30 minLook, we’re not going to pretend this is fancy. It’s Spam. But hear us out.
Sliced Spam and Swiss cheese get sandwiched between white bread, dipped in a beaten egg-and-milk mixture, then griddled in butter until the outside is golden-crisp and the cheese is melting out the sides like a Monte Cristo that took a detour through the 1950s.
The strawberry cream cheese on the side is the surprise that ties it all together: sweet, tangy, and oddly genius next to the salty, savory sandwich.
Is it gourmet? No. Is it satisfying in a way that’s hard to explain? Absolutely.
Kitchen Tips
- Slice the Spam thin. Thick slices won’t heat through before the bread burns. You want it warm and slightly crispy at the edges.
- Medium heat on the griddle. Too hot and the egg coating burns before the cheese melts. Patience gets you golden bread and gooey Swiss.
- Press gently with a spatula while grilling. This helps the cheese make contact with the warm bread and melt faster.
