This bread machine loaf blends two flavors you might not expect together: warm curry powder and honey. The result is a subtly spiced, lightly sweet bread with a golden crumb and an aroma that fills the kitchen.

Applesauce stands in for butter or oil here, keeping the loaf moist with almost no added fat. The half-and-half split of whole wheat and bread flour gives you a hearty texture without the heaviness of a 100% whole wheat loaf.

This is about as hands-off as baking gets. Load the ingredients, press start, and walk away.

Kitchen Tips

  • Use a mild or medium curry powder. Hot curry can turn bitter when baked and overwhelm the honey.
  • Add ingredients in the order your bread machine manual recommends (usually wet first, then dry, with yeast on top).
  • The applesauce adds moisture, so if your loaf comes out gummy, reduce water by a tablespoon next time.

Variations

  • Add a tablespoon of dried onion flakes for extra savory depth.
  • Fold in golden raisins or chopped dried apricots during the mix-in cycle for a sweet curry bread.
  • Increase curry powder to a full tablespoon if you want a bolder spice presence.
