Sharp cheddar, butter-glazed apples with brown sugar and warm spices, plus breakfast sausage on a crispy pizza crust. Vermont breakfast pizza is brunch at its most indulgent.

30 minSweet meets savoury meets melted cheddar on a pizza crust, and suddenly Saturday morning just got a whole lot more exciting.
Golden Delicious apples get sautéed in butter with brown sugar and homemade apple pie spice until they’re glossy and tender. Those spiced apples go onto a pre-baked pizza shell over a thick layer of sharp Vermont cheddar, then breakfast sausage and more cheese pile on top before a quick trip through a hot oven.
The result? A breakfast pizza where every bite hits sweet, salty, spicy, and cheesy all at once. It makes two full pizzas, so invite the neighbours or stash slices for reheating all week.
Kitchen Tips
- Use sharp, aged cheddar. Mild cheddar melts nicely but won’t stand up to the sweetness of the apples and brown sugar.
- Make the apple pie spice from scratch: 3 tablespoons cinnamon, 1 tablespoon nutmeg, 1 tablespoon allspice. Store the leftovers in a jar.
- Cook the sausage until well-browned and drain it thoroughly. Greasy sausage will make the pizza soggy.
- Golden Delicious apples hold their shape when cooked. Avoid softer varieties like McIntosh that will turn to mush.
