4Yes, you can bake a cake in your crockpot. And not just any cake, but a pound cake with ribbons of brown sugar and cinnamon streusel running through the middle and crisping up on top.
This trick works with a coffee can nested inside a 3-quart slow cooker or a Bundt pan in a larger 5-quart model. Paper towels under the lid absorb the condensation that would otherwise drip onto your cake and make it soggy.
It’s a lifesaver when the oven is already packed for a holiday dinner, or when you simply don’t feel like heating up the kitchen on a hot day.
Kitchen Tips
- Layer the paper towels between the pot and the lid. They catch the moisture that builds up during slow cooking and keep the cake top from getting wet.
- Check for doneness with a wooden pick after 3 hours. Crockpots vary widely in heat output, so yours may run faster or slower.
- Grease and flour the coffee can or Bundt pan generously. The cake will stick otherwise, and you’ll lose that beautiful shape.

Directions
If you are using a 3-quart crockpot, it is recommended that a 2 lb. coffee can be used.
It is suggested for a larger crockpot, 5-quart, a 9-cup Bundt pan or a 3 lb. coffee can.
Mix pound cake according to package instructions.
Pour half of batter into well-greased and flour coffee, whichever size you are using.
Combine streusel ingredients and sprinkle half over the cake batter.
Add remaining batter and top with the rest of the streusel.
Place can or pan in crockpot.
Cover top of can with 8 paper towels.
Cover and bake on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours.
If using the Bundt pan, bake for 2 to 3 hours.
