Put the seasoning packet down. You don’t need it.

This taco beef uses just four real ingredients (ground beef, salsa, chili powder, and cumin) to make taco meat that actually tastes like food instead of a chemistry experiment.

Brown the beef, stir in the salsa and spices, and let it simmer until all that liquid cooks down into a saucy, well-seasoned filling that clings to every bite.

Use it for tacos, pile it on tostadas, scatter it over salad greens, or stuff it into burritos. It’s a base recipe that earns its spot in the weekly rotation.

Chef Tips

  • Drain the beef well after browning. Pouring off the excess fat keeps the filling flavorful without being greasy.
  • Use your favorite salsa. Chunky, smooth, mild, or fire-roasted. The salsa you choose shapes the whole flavor profile, so pick one you love.
  • Simmer until the liquid is absorbed. You want saucy, not soupy. The meat should hold together on a tortilla without dripping everywhere.
