Pineapple chunks and peaches get blended with unsweetened pineapple juice, plain low-fat yogurt, and skim milk. A sugar substitute sweetens without the blood sugar spike, making this genuinely diabetic-friendly.
The yogurt does double duty here: it adds body so the frappe feels thick and creamy, and it brings a slight tang that keeps the drink from tasting flat. Without it, you’d just have fruit juice with milk.
Blend until the mixture thickens, not just until smooth. That extra 30 seconds in the blender incorporates air and gives the frappe its frothy, almost milkshake-like texture. Serve immediately before it separates.
Chef Tips
- Use water-packed fruit, not syrup-packed. Syrup-packed pineapple and peaches add hidden sugars that defeat the purpose of using a sugar substitute.
- Freeze the pineapple chunks and peach halves before blending for a thicker, colder frappe without adding ice (which waters it down).
- Chill the milk and yogurt beforehand. Warm ingredients make a lukewarm drink that nobody wants.
Variations
- Mango twist: Swap the peaches for frozen mango chunks and add a squeeze of lime juice.
- Green boost: Blend in a handful of baby spinach. The fruit flavor dominates and the color turns a fun green that kids actually enjoy.
